Davìd Markey was born in Ghent, Belgium, and attended the Delft University of Technology, achieving a Cum Laude Master of Science in Ship Hydrodynamics in 2013. This included a four-month internship at the University of Southampton’s Wolfson Unit for Marine Technology and Industrial Aerodynamics, where he was supervised by BAR Technical Director, Andy Claughton. Davìd worked on the development of an AC45 sailing simulator.
In 2014 he began a PhD on the development of a Performance Prediction Program for Wind-Assisted Propulsion for Commercial Vessels, supervised by Dr. Lex Keuning. Davìd has now left this to join Ben Ainslie Racing to work on aero/hydrodynamics and performance analysis.
Davìd enjoys sailing and has competed in the Laser Radial, the Farr 30, the Tour de France a la Voile, and the Mini 650. In 2012 he returned his focus back to his academic studies and completed his MSc.
Outside of sailing he has begun training and competing in triathlon races.
